crystal gaffney.. the crime happened back in july of 2014 in linn county. kwwl's lauren moss joins us now live in our newsroom with the latest developments..in a very interesting case, lauren. very..hogan was originally charged with first degree murder, but i spoke with an assisant county attorney today who told me he accepted a plea deal for second- degree murdern hogan admitted to assaulting and stabbing gaffney. her body was found in rural linn county, back in 2014 now before hogan was arrested he sparked an amber alert - accused of taking gaffney's three children, one of whom was his own. hogan was arrested a few days later at university avenue studios in waterloo. he was then charged with first degree murder in her death... you may remember, all of this happened in a span of just days in july of 2014. now, because he took the plea deal, hogan now faces up to 50 years in prison- and he must serve 35 years before he could be up

we've got you covered, lauren moss kwwl news. thanks lauren- hogan's sentencing is set for may 20th in linn county. lisbon police tell us they are following up on leads today after vandals marked up multiple buildings. it happened february 21st, city officials say a large portion of the lisbon community was at the state wrestling tournament that day. as you can see here rude messages with very large letters were put on the school. police say the vandalism could be seen from highway thirty. kwwl's kristin rogers--spending time in lisbon today talking with the school principal as well as other victims, kristin? the principal tells me it was a long clean up process the next morning but a group of volunteers helped to remove the paint as quickly as possible. rude language plastered on the side of lisbon school, so big it could easily be seen from

two people are now at the university of a woman is dead after a farm accident inside a livestock pen. lee county sheriff's office says ruth hoskins died saturday after she and her husband tried to hook a grain wagon to a utility vehicle. when her husband was backing up, he accidentally hit the gas and hit ruth. she was taken to the hospital - she later died. a semi and train collide..sending two people to the hospital. you are looking at the clean-up- today in nashua. here's the damaged semi- it was carrying grain, which covered the railroad tracks after the accident. police think the semi driver didnt see the train coming..resulting in the train hitting the rear of the semi. the semi driver and train conductor were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. and another semi truck was sliced in half after it was hit by a train - this one in sioux city.

closing arguments expected on monday. influential iowa business leaders are urging state legislators to pass a bill that would expand the state's medical marijuana laws. more than 90 business leaders sent lawmakers a letter, asking them to debate and pass comprehensive medical cannabis legislation. the legislation would grant the state authority to create two growing facilities and distribute medical cannabis oil to people who need it. the popular ride service uber may be coming to iowa city. at tonight's city council meeting -- a decision could finally be made. the city has been talking with uber since last year about the possibility. college students and others in the city think it would be beneficial. city council made revisions to the area's taxi ordinance so that it could happen. and then..we get snow. take a look at this: yesterday, golfers out on the green -- nearly 45 of them came out for the earliest opening yet. and today, same golf course... but a much different story. this is at the irv warren memorial golf course in waterloo. no golfers today ...but we're told yesterday's weather made up for all this snow.. after all, this is iowa. today marks exactly one year since iowa's gas tax increase took effect. many people haven't given it much thought because prices have been so low. the ten-cent tax hike kicked in march first of last year after lawmakers approved it. it was expected to bring in about 215 million dollars a year to help fix roads and bridges across the state. the dot predicted black hawk county would get about 845-thousand dollars. the county engineer says one
